what air fillter

I have just picked up my 172 cup and need to know what filter to put on, it has a piper cross one at the mo.
Can you drill the air box and put a performance filter in i did this on my mk2 golf gti .

welcome chap , a good itg filter would be adequate as compared to the induction kits on offer .
