While we're here, how do I remove the A pillar covers ? do they have these clips ?

Are you sure you broke them?! I've removed these countless ones and refitted and the clips are hard as nails.

You have to push a lot harder than you think you would need to for them to snap back in place.

Yeah definatley, snapped in 2. Jacobs ones wont work, so have bought Marks now
