What camcorder?

  Fiesta ST
My mum wants to get my dad one for his 50th. Got no idea what to get. Want something digital, but what sort of thing is best? Haven't got a clue! Thanks.

The Sony camcorders are quite good value for money and produce good pic and sound results. Avoid JVC, I owned one of those and the mic was terrible.

I have a canon mv750i from pixmania . Imo its a good camcorder , but now its discontinued . I would have a canon again no problem , there are newer models available like the canon

Features to look for are optical zoom 20X or more is good this is the important zoom , not the digital zoom .
Features like audio in as well as out . Firewire connection is supposed to be better than the usb connection if you want to hook it up to your pc .Also they will have analogue connections for direct connection to your tv , video etc ...

Alot of camcorders now come with the option of taking still pics onto a memory card like an sd or mmc card . Whilst the pic quality is adequate its never going to be as good as a dedicated digital camera .

Batteries or very very expensive if you buy their own brand , i got some off ebay delivered from the USA for about £20 instead of canons price of about £100 pounds .

For some weird reason alot of manufacturers never include a case/bag , so check out ebay again .

I never had a problem ordering off www.pixmania.co.uk it was delivered to my door within 36 hours of ordering . Plus you get a 2 year warranty because they come from France , UK models will only usually have 12 months .

I've heard of people having problems with pixmania and others who haven't but its like anything if you order on the internet , deliveries can sometimes take longer than they state .

Hmm I could do with a new one soon, my JVC GR-D20 has served me well for 3 years though!! :D

I got a Sony HC-32E of ebay for around 270ish and it's amazing quality for the money!

Also bought a much bigger battery for it off ebay again for only 20notes.
