the reality is, a standalone ECU can cost you about the same as a set of cams, and that's including fitting and mapping, and IMO the gains are actually better

right, ive taken a leap and orderd up jenvey bodies and omex ecu from ktec, think ive officially got there first off the shelf kit available to the public, was thinking as im going that far i might go for cams now too lol. been looking around mainly at catcams, and have seen the 5502423's any one use them? or can comment? ive seen that these cams retain the vvt and hydralic lifters too

Yozza was looking into Colombo & Bariani cams a little while back, maybe start to sell them in the UK.
Real happy European customers , heard good things about them.
Same quality (if not better) as Schrick

sorry, i ment how do YOU find them, as in to drive, power delivery and such?

very good, smooth, quite a lot of low down power and alot up top but still smooth. gets going about 5.5k/6k

I'd like to try the 423's to see if they have more punch but 422's are very good

do a search for my power graphs from GDI to see how smooth

I was told that the 428 cat cams are best for top end power???

If I fit 422's and springs can I still use my standard ECU with a good map??? Trying to find the best cams for use with hillclimbs and trackdays but want to retain standard ECU.

422s are pretty wild, the extra lift at TDC over 428s will be a problem with standard pistons. Wont idle for s**t on the standard ECU either, especially with fly-by-wire throttle as on all ph2s (which does the idle control) If you insist on standard ECU, 428s are what i would use most of the time.

  Evo 9
Ok, thanks. Whereabout would you expect gains? Id prefer gains low down rather than at top end. Dont mind idle problems as the car will mainly be used as a track toy. Any other suggestions welcome on type of cams to fit......

  ITB'd MK1
if you want low down gains, I dont think you want cams first TBH. Proper mapping will have great gains above the standard generic calibration. Inlet manifold Matching will also give reasonable bhp and nice torque gains. For ultimate torque gains, throttle bodies. Collected Adeys car yesterday (which has throttle bodies) and drove it about 100 miles, ready for cam fitting. Fell in love with it completely

What about those cars that already have an induction kit, matched inlets, exhaust and custom RStuner - will cams still give gains?

oh dont misunderstand me, cams work. You will normally see good gains, but they will be higher in the rev range. Also seem to make the engine free-er revving IMO. Does depend what ones you use though.

  ITB'd MK1
peak power and torque will be increased. The mods you've listed make minimal measurable gains apart from inlet matching which can do quite a lot in relative terms, but without them there will be restriction once you go furthur, ie. fitting cams. Standard exhaust is poop IMO, hard to get good gains without something freer flowing, but on it's own an exhaust wont normally give power. Cams should give 10+bhp peak, but there's more to it than just a number

  ITB'd MK1
yeah they rattle lots on the F4R. Extra lift is achieved by removing material from the base circle. We'd use them if people wanted but no-one is happy with the rattling.

  Ph1
yo dude were you there last week? dis you make 186bhp, paul was comparing your output to mine :)

Yeah that was me mate :)

Fred and Danny. Mine dont rattle a bit!! - Probably just the early ones that rattled

Ok regarded as a low budget alternative but gets the same gains as all these other fancy cams for half the price
