PMSL at mega ghey threads like these..

.... lol, i had 117mph (speedo reading) on the clock with my ph2 1.4 16v. good conditions and standard car, on my own also. basically flat out and wouldn't do any more! ...this is a realistic result! ..unlike half these ghey sayings of 105mph+ in a car less than 75bhp! ..WTF!!!!

your all nutters, i took mine up to 100 on the motorway and i thought it was going to shake itself apart ! and no it didnt have alot left to give ! 1.4 8v mk1, originally ran the 0-60 in 11.1 now does it in 12.1 so its lost a second in 13yrs of living, im proud of it for that lol.

I've had mine up to 105 on a slight downhill. This was on motorway though, honestly it sounded like it was going to blow up, but it handles 90 well I find. Not really any shaking at all, around 95 it starts to get a bit nervous.

And I repeat
The car will go as fast as the gearing/limiter will allow and no quicker.

I don't know of you know what the gearing is of a 1.2 8v (I'm not sure but I bet it's not THAT low geared; the 1.2 16v is around 20mph/1000rpm and I very much doubt that would hit a limiter in 5th 130+). It doesn't have the power to either hit the limiter or run out of gearing. With so little power, wind resistance will set the top speed.

The ClioSports would all do 150 on that logic, but in reality the top speed is somewhere around 140. My 205 Mi16 will run into the limiter in 5th quite easily as it has enough power coupled with a low ratio gearbox on so will max out at 135. With the standard gearbox it'd be geared for 150 on the limiter but would never hit that.

mine hits the limiter in 5th which i beleive is somewhere around 145mph? its 150mph on the speedo but we all know thats not true

We've all seen the pic sir...a certain Duncan Ferguson in his black 172 proved the limiter can be hit in 5th at 150 indicated..

lol at the dweemers.

105mph out of my 1.2 8v down the biggest hill in Kent. Top of Wrotham Hill M20 down to Aylesford M26 jct. Thats a good 2-3 mile straight run down a hill lorries will struggle to do 35 up.

No way it was going faster than that. If you think the front end of a RS goes light at high speed this was plain madness.

It would it at an indicated 78mph quite easy. If you slipped over 80 it would scream and beg for mercy.

1.2 8v for speed ftl.

Ah right, well the Sports do have theoretically enough power to get near the limiter so it probably can happen. I'm not sure if 182 has taller gearing? (I see 3250 @ 70mph which would equate to 155mph @ 7200rpm!).

This thread is doing my head in. PMSL at all the comparisons to 172/182's top end. Your not going to come close so live with it :)

I've seen 108mph on the clocks in my 1.2 16v, very steep down hill section of my own private motorway, had very little else to give tbh.

I can't imagine .... actually i can imagine what it would be like if one had to apply extreme breaking in 1.2 doing over a 100mph - s**t SCARY!

Can't comment on the 8v but the 1.2 16v brakes were impressive I found, very stable and powerful from high speed.

Arent the 1.2 brakes rated for 150bhp or something like that, ridiculously good brakes for such a low powered car.

lol. With 1.2's is so dangerous getting to a top speed...usually coz it takes 6miles...

had 116 in my old 1.2 down a hill with hurricane "Braveheart" behind me.
