What is this part?

Firstly, apologies for the bad photo, maybe it's too bad you won't be able to help but anyway, my exhaust started blowing, sounds a bit like a helicopter. Popped the bonnet and had a listen and there's a pipe which looks like it's wrapped in wire, and the wire is frayed slightly, am I right in thinking that's the flexi? Are these easily repairable?

Manifold flexi broke, common problem on the 197. Your best bet is to chop out the flexi and weld in some new sections. A bit of googling should give you the part numbers, I believe they are made by Bosal.

The parts themselves were less than £50 if I remember rightly, the rest depends on if you can remove and refit the manifold yourself and do the welding or know someone who can weld.

I helped a friend fix his, we had the manifold off in a couple of hours, cut off the flexis and got a friend to weld the new ones in, another couple of hours to refit.

Yeah, got a friend of a friend who could do it but will cost a couple of hundred because he thinks the manifold will have to come off!
