What Rig have you got ?

  Shed.
Well ive got a case from the 90's its a legend and has "catch of the day" stickers all over it form morrisons. built the thing from when i had my first semi decent pc. used to be running an Athlon 2000+ at 1.7 ghz back in the day, with a geforce 2 MX.

Its getting old now and i can feel a low fps rate form Unreal 3.

AMD Athlon 64 3500+ running at just above 2.2Ghz. has a 512kb cache btw.
Asus A8N32 SLI Duluxe
Corsair XMS Platinum DDR (pc3200 s**t because im on socket 939)
XFX geforce 7900GTX (675m version)
Corsair HX 520 PSU
Soundblaster fatal1ty card of soundmaking thing.
Some CD/DVD RW Lightscribe thing

And a Happy hour Floppy drive.

really is time for an upgrade but the lack of a decent proccy socket, and a discontinued socket at that, means that ill need to upgrade the mobo, proccy and also the ram. which i dont wanna do.

I think we have the same Memory FM, when I bought mine ages ago it was £160 I think for 2GB I had the first incarnation of the DS4, but upgraded to the newer DS4 which takes the quads and a 1333FSB, + the E6750 was a free upgrade.

Just bought 2GB and it was £45 inc VAT. Bloody depreciating pieces of shite LOL

Some serious s**t.
Some serious quad-core s**t.
Some serious DDR3 s**t (maybe).
Some serious graphics cards.
Basically the best that money can buy when I decide to build it :D

I'm also considering TheBeast2.5, a stop-gap upgrade for Crysis, which would include a 6400+ Black Edition 3.20GHz, another 2GB of the same RAM, and 2x spanking new 8800 GTX/Ultra

^upgrade your graphics card and Crysis will run fine. The system requirements to run it are surprisingly low.

Yeah TBH I have been thinking along those lines recently. DDR3 is still a fair way off from being a viable option. Of course, upgrading to the platform now can't do any harm, but I'd be paying more than I needed to right now. TheBeast3 can wait another year, and in the meantime I'll probably just upgrade on my existing AM2 platform.

Saying that, I still think I'll maybe add another 2GB of RAM and go for that new AM2 Black Edition. Hmmmm I wonder if a single 8800GTX in my rig will promise smooth (not what some people call smooth) gameplay @ 1680x1050 on max with some good AA/AF.

Right, so here is the spec of TheBeast2.5 if I continue to the checkouts ;)

Asus M2N32-SLi-DLX nForce 590 SLi (existing)
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 6400+ Black Edition 3.20GHz (new)
Crucial Ballistix 4GB (4x1GB) DDR2 PC2-6400C4 800MHz (was 2GB)
BFG GeForce 8800 Ultra OC (was 7950GX2)

Minus my existing HDDs and sound card etc. that's the nuts and bolts of it. Deal or no deal for Crysis? I know an Intel platform would make better use of the graphics card, but the idea at the moment is to stick with my AM2 platform for a while longer.

The system specs needed were announced.

Minimum System Requirements:
OS--Windows XP or Windows Vista
Processor--2.8GHz or faster (XP); 3.2GHz or faster* (Vista)
Memory--1GB RAM or 1.5GB RAM (Vista)
Video Card--256MB**
Hard Drive--12GB
Sound Card DirectX 9.0c compatible

* Supported Processors: Intel Pentium 4 2.8GHz (3.2GHz for Vista) or faster, Intel Core 2GHz (2.2GHz for Vista) or faster, and other similar CPUs.

** Supported chipsets: NVIDIA GeForce 6800 GT + or similar GPUs. Laptop versions of these chipsets may work but are not supported. Integrated chipsets are not supported. Updates to your video and sound card drivers may be required.

Recommended System Requirements:
OS--Windows XP / Vista
Processor--Intel Core 2 DUO @ 2.2GHz
Memory--2GB RAM
GPU--NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS/640 or similar

Cevat Yerli: The quality of Crysis running on [minimum spec hardware] does equal the shading and texture quality of games that are about three years old, but with polygonal detail that is bigger then games from that same generation. The scaling happens in various areas, such as shading-quality, texture-resolution, shadows. View distance and interactivity are close to Far Cry. Our goal was to reach a quality with the game on the various specs to compete with games that are from the last two generations until today's generation, respectively for low, medium, and high [specification setups], with the very high [spec setups] hoping to define the upcoming and introduced generation with Crysis.

Nice setup Gareth. Nice case, and those speakers are the same as mine. They actually sound really good with the sub. Well, good enough for a PC anyway, as I tend to use cans for my games :)

Ah okay cheers for that info. I may try and find something. I still don't belive the game will run smoothly at what I consider maximum settings, without a serious rig. Remember I use big AA&AF and use Vsync. I'll be running it in DX10 under Vista @ 1680x1050 with a mimimum of 4xAA & 8xAF. Thanks anyway though mate, as your comments are promising. I'll certainly not be going SLi simply because my CPU will be a major bottleneck, and the 2nd card is likely to do f**k all :D

And Crysis isn't that good. Had ago on the demo the other day and wasnt impressed.

all the set ups look good! why do people have so many screens? are they ran from different PC`s? bit new to "PC ing"!!

Of the 3 screens on my desk, the one on the left is used for Sky TV & PS2, the other 2 are running as dual screens from a single pc (2960 x 1050 resolution)

Expand please mate. In what way? Story? Sound? Visuals? What imprresses you normally about PC FPS games that would make you not like Crysis?

Cheers dude. I've never been one to buy OC'd cards before, as I know the whole system is under my command and I can OC the gfx anyway. But I just couldn't help specing up the max :D

EDIT: Good read on the processor :)
