What the hell is this noise ? *vid*

  Black Gold Trophy
difficult to tell from the vid, sounds like either a rattle or possibly the exhaust manifold gasket blowing

its defo a rattle, my exhaust does make a fair few rattles. Im just worried its something serious, but its defo not coming from cambelt area and ive just had all that done about 1k ago.

It sounds like its from the inlet area, but if you listen under the car you can hear it from the center section, just not quite as loud..:s

What do you think it is ?

If it was anything in the engine surely it wouldnt do it between a certain rev's and it would seriously hinder perfomance ? Trying to convince my self

probably something loose that is whizzing around. Fred is good with his ears on engines tbh

on a lighter note if your car does pop can i have your H&R's?

  Dodgy one
Something is lose within the belts on the engine IMO, from a video though its hard to tell

No its not going to pop lol !

Something loose whizzing around where ? and why would it consistantly do it only at 3k - 4k if its that

Its defo not blowing, If it was something serious, would it not do it all through the rev's ? Im scared :(

Yeah 100% sure, the exhaust does rattle from around the centre section somewhere, and you can hear the noise if you look under the car, but it sounds louder in the engine bay ?

i had just been thrashing it a little yes. but when that video was done it had been left a good twenty mins and a mate wanted to hear my exhaust so i was reving it and thats when i heard it :(

After driving it too, slowly for about 15 mins, i stopped and the noise was only at 3k, it died off before 4k as before it did it just past it

sounds like either the inlet manifold or fuel rail guard is loose and rattling, or something along those lines, doesnt sound like an internal noise.

agree check everything is tight and if it is it could possibally be something rattleing inside the head, spark plugs are know to come loose on rs's might be working its self loose :(

that tends to make a chuffing noise and would be apparent at all rpm.

due to it being limited to a certain rpm band i can only think its harmonics of something slightly loose.....not wobbly bobbly loose.

Ill check all around that area is tight tomorrow then, worth checking the plugs are tight too ? i would of thought that is a diff noise though im sure ive heard a car with loose plugs before and it wasnt like this.

deffo something loose id say as theres nothing internal that i can think of that would make that noise plus it seems its vibration causing it since its only at a set rev band

yeah i thought straight away cant be internal due to only being between a certain rev and not throughout the range

aux system mounts, alt, engine mounts, exhaust compensator springs, coilpack, rear engine lift eye.........so much to check, even the front slam panel could make a similar noise if loose at one end.

so basically get the socket set out and check everything i can ..

Aux system mounts ? What are those... cambelt and aux belt and tensioners etc were all done last month by your fine selves :)

Im ok with car's, but wouldn't be competent taking off the cambelt cover etc to check all of that, ill certainly check all the bolts i can find though :) glad youve said it doesnt sound internal, i feel slightly better

you dont have to take off the cambelt cover.

The aux belt system is all accesable down the front of the engine, have a poke round.

I dont think the cambelt/tensioner/idler are the issue so you should leave those areas alone.

I can only really take stabs in the dark here as a 3 second cameraphone vid doesnt really divulge much lol. Get it looked at or booked in with us if you are not feeling comfortable.

ill check everything i can, if it doesnt sort it, ill pop over Thursday if thats ok, ill ring you anyway if i cant sort it. ill have those inlets aswell if this isnt going to cost much :)

Just had a poke around this morning?3 bolts hold the guard cover on is that correct ? Left and side moves up and down and hits metal when i move it with my hand so im hoping its that, are they 10mm ? cant see how im going to get a ratchet in to tighten it up
