what to go for??

  BMW M135I
Well im in two minds at the moment about getting either a clio 172 or the 172 cup.
At the moment im on a 1.4 16v but looking to upgrade as money from various crashes that arent my fault are finally arriving after over one and half years of waiting.

Now i know there are lots of answers to this all over the forums but im not after personal preferences but guides as to what will be, should we say "better" for my needs.

Now the main worry is the ABS on the clio cup, does it majorly affect the difference about what to get. Ive been watching the thread on the supercharger and with the amount due im probably (over 75% sure) of getting this setup so im wondering if ABS will be better suited to with the supercharger? The brakes will be uprated but will it make a difference?

Now im not fussed about the air con or climate control (not said anything about losing it but its same thing as air con really) as its been said that they will be lost due to the setup so the up seems more suited

Another thing is the styling as in alloys on the cup, the turins(sp) i prefer and would save time searching for new alloys to replace the alloys on the spec'd 172 or would it just be better styling myself?

Sorry for the essay guys but just what you guys would think would be best for the situation?

replys much appreciated

Danny

Re: what to got for??

Put a 2.0 supercharged lump into ur 1.4 bucket

would be a good idea but its been in 2 crashes, not the luckiest car for me. no the cars last accident had rear wheel arch damage and i bought it back and just stuk a new tire on it and by time ive repaired damgae, its not worth it, plus upgrading to rear brakes etc

Re: what to got for??

Wouldn't let the lack of ABS worry you or alter your decision, I've only locked the wheels a couple of times in mine, one time being deliberate as I was just testing the brakes. Come the really bad weather i.e snow ABS is pretty useless anyway.

With you saying you're not bothered about CC or AirCon perhaps a Cup would be a good choice? If you do choose the Cup though beware some insurance companies will charge you more for the Cup.

yeah i read up on that, whats the brakes like when been pushed without abs, you still find it somewhat difficult to lock?

Re: what to got for??

The brakes on the Cup are strong and don't lock easily. Only when slammed on. It's not an issue.

Sounds to me that too many people rely on ABS to save them in an emergency. I'm not saying it wouldn't help but maybe they wouldn't have been in the 'situation' if they were driving a car without ABS.

well theres been a point when my 1.4 16v turned the abs off when it skiddded in wet on some grates in stoke and had to drive all way back to doncaster in a hurry and to be honest the brakes felt sharper in my opinion , its just looking up on abs seems to have different opinions but every car is different im guessing

like i said in the first post though, i waint be fussed about air con as im getting s/c kit in time and that means c/c waint be available either. thats why its a daunting choice, shame there wasnt somthing in between with a mix of the "comforts"

Very much so, you really have to slam on hard to get them to lock. Obviously it wouldn't take as much effort to lock them in bad weather conditions but even then I've got enough confidence in them that'll be able to stop the car.

Best thing to do really is take a Cup for a test drive and test them out for yourself.

The one downside to the Cup is the look of that cloth interior, don't get me wrong the seats are comfy and supportive but they look awful.

Re: what to got for??

With the CC removed I guess it's really down to the seats, xenons and styling / colour.I think the Cup feels a bit different to drive than normal 172's, more planted, but opinions differ and it seems to be down to the individual example.Oh, and yeah, buy mine! :)

Sorry mate I was just saying what I like.

If you wanted a mixture buy a cup and put xenons on it with two new front seats? Cheap as chips tbh.

Re: what to got for??

I dont think I would buy a 172 Cup due to lack of ABS.

Buy a 172 and put coilovers on it and strip some of the weight.
