What would you do?

So,

I got a seemingly good deal on a 172 Cup (95k miles, 52 plate, MB), did the usual man maths and thought - yeah good buy! So signed on the dotted line.

Now, I bought the car knowing it would need cambelt, aux, dephaser, water pump & service (factored that in).

It still needs;

Cambelt etc - £500
New Brakes all round - Roughly £200
Rear Cup Bulb - £26
New dash - £40?
New Tyres - £250
Wheel Refurb / New alloys - Either £200 or £450 (2118)
Exhaust - 2nd hand £150

Now, in my figuring the car as it is is worth roughly £800/ £1000 (correct me if i'm wrong). Now, all of the above comes to well over £1000.

I'm happy to do the work to the car etc. but part of me thinks - I could just buy a new 172 cup with all of the above done to it and save myself money.

Am I being sane here? What would you do?

I'm not overly attached to the car and think, perhaps get rid of it before I invest all this money in something that wont be worth all that much at the end.

Thanks in advance.

If you get the cambelt done yourself, you will know its been done properly (dependant on where you take it) for peace of mind.

Youve got the car nw. Its soo much hassle to sell it on again and buy another. Plus you will probably loose money on it.

Yeah its being taken into a specialist. Just when I break down the figures I'm thinking, could get a new one for that plus mine!!

Half of the issue is I'm crap with spanners (well, I would be if I had any) and have nowhere to work on the car.

Get belts done on this one. Peace of mind knowing they have been done. You might end up doing them on another car just as a safe guard.
every car will need new brakes and tyres in it's life so these are consumables that you expect to fork out for. Changing wheels is a personal preference not a must do. But can be done anytime and you might even want to change them on the 'new car'? Glove box/dash cheap enough to fix, just an inconvenience having to do it.
Exhaust again another consumable unless its stainless. Does it need one or just you wanting to upgrade to an aftermarket? Another thing you would end up doing on the new car if so.
So at the end of the day you would have a car that you know has had belts done and the rest you can do as and when and you have a decent car in the end.

Moment of madness over!!!

Yeah Fred @ Btm and I had a right laugh at the exhaust. The most hilarious bodge job I've ever seen.

Wheels are a must. These ones are absolutely fucked!!! As in huge kerbing and peeling paint. Look rancid.

The dash is a big concern... I'm nowhere near skilled enough to do it / have the equipment.

Belts etc being done next weekend along with brakes
