what's a wideband controller

  BMW M135i
Not too sure on the controller bit but a wideband lambda is basically a more accurate lambda sensor that can give the exact(ish) AFR (air/fuel ratio) of the mixture the engine is burning. Whereas a normal narrowband lambda can only give a rich/lean value.

afaik.

yeah wideband updates quicker,, the controller is basically a box of tricks that 1 converts the signal in to a gauge output and 2 in to a signal engine management systems can understand

bit vauge. Wideband measures AFR over a wider range, not necessarily more accurately. Mostly used as a mapping tool. Narrowband lambda is pretty useless for manual measurement of anything, it's almost exclusively used as a feedback and fuel trimming function on an ECU.
