Whats better ? Windows Vista or Xp Professional ?

  cock mobile.
For the simple fact that the vast majority of use for my PC at home is for games - I see absolutely no reason to use Vista at all, currently. It's nice to chuck a CD or DVD into the drive when installed with XP32 and know that the game will install

Surely the same for Vista x86? Don't some recent games only run on vista also?

without the need of admin rights

You do need admin rights on XP to install stuff, a standard user cannot.

I can see why people prefer XP, I do at work.

They did try making Shadowrun as a DX10-only title. Not that it was much cop and there was a DX9 workaround around anyway.

You do need admin rights for XP to install stuff - that's right. But apart from you own little kiddies accessing the PC, who in their right mind uses and creates a mere 'User' profile on an XP machine at home? Work - definitely, but at home it would be absolutely pointless. ;)

I kept checking the RAID array on my PC under Vista. I'm sure if it was audible, it would be a costant 'brrraaappp, brrrraaaaapp' - constant bloody I/O access. XP has a mad 5-10 seconds on bootup, then nothing. The occassional flash of LEDs.

I really like Vista. I think it looks good and feels good, but as I said originally - it does absolutely nothing (for me) that XP already does very well. And if it's true that MSoft will support it until 2014, that's 13 years for a single O/S. Almost unprecedented in current-day terms. MSoft realise how good an 'all-rounder' XP actually was and is. Many firms (like ours) are resisting adoption of Vista as long as possible - hopefully long enough that we can jump straight to the next O/S in line!

Well, there's a whole host of security reasons, but I must admit in the end I got pissed off with it and now run constantly in admin mode

I think most businesses will follow suit, I think we shall here (not that it's my decision), there's no business case for the upgrade at all tbh.

Exactly. I think for a good majority of businesses that have the likes of XP desktop/laptops, using Office (XP and beyond) and communicating with 2003 Servers - there is absolutely no reason to move forward with Vista.

The same with Office 2007 to a certain extent. There are only so many ways that you can create a spreadsheet or Word document, where the 'benefits' of the latest version of Office just seem unnecessary.

We dipped our toes into the Vista waters a few times. Plenty of issues came up. When we have to move, we will. But until then.....

ive never use or had vista but from what people have said ill be sticking with XP till Vista gets sorted

God comments like this REALLY f**king annoy me. It's not meant to be a personal dig at you but you really have no idea what you're talking about. There is nothing "to sort" with vista, its just better than XP on a half decent spec'd computer, simple as that. It only if you start dabling in vista x64 without a clue what you are doing where you will see problems, but thats 99.9% user error.

The problem with vista is (like any other business) that if people listen to 100 comments about it, they will only take note of the 1 person who said "its s**t" rather than the 99 people who say its brilliant. As always, the bad news travels faster even though most of the time its completely over-hyped and a result of dim-witted idiots who don't know what they're doing so blame microsoft.

This is all from a small consumer perspective rather than a commercial btw.
