What's needed for a decent audio set-up?

  Clio, Yamaha R6
Hi guys, looking to get a decent set up in my car and just wondering what's needed? First step will be a head unit, is there any specific type of head unit needed?

Thanks

Have a search mate... been covered lots.

Most will recommend Alpine. I would too! I have a 9880 which I picked up for pennies on ebay and it's a great head unit with HPF's etc but it depends what you need!

Me personally, an Alpine/pioneer head unit, amp running some decent front components, big amp running a 12 inch sub in the boot.

i got a alpine headunit, JL Audio 6.5inch c5's in the front and 5.25inch c2's in the back and two 8" subs running of the JL Audio HD900/5 amp, sounds amazing and just anuff bass

Personally I plan to get a pioneer/alpine head unit, new tweeters, replace the standard speakers with a pioneer set up an put my 12" vibe twin air sub in the boot. Should sound amazing!

Cheers guys, been looking around and there is so many different things to look for. Most things go by watts..

What watt amp etc should I be looking for, for a decent set up?

Whatever you buy, avoid anything selling as "1000000 Watts!!"

Anything rated properly, i.e. Watts RMS, should be a decent product.

talkaudio is a great forum to have a read of for ideas etc :)

Lol cheers I'll try that forum.. Just a quick one, my bro in law gave me some speakers today, they are jblgt0627

Are these any good? They say 60 watts rms?

Thanks and sorry for so many questions, literally a compete noob to this :)

If you wanna get the full 60RMS, then you'd need to amp em. Most after market head units will say they offer around 45-50watts, but in reality it only works out at around 23-25 RMS.
