whats that underneath ash tray

  Mk2 Golf GTI

can hillpower do it? they arent far from me. id rather do this than get a chip as it would be untraceable to insurance

so if you had a decat, ik and zorst and reprogramed it thro the ash tray thingy would you get the same gains as replacing the ecu and getting that reprogrammed?

its the diagnostic computer(clip) connection point.you access all computers/systems inc obd(which is a separate system itself) through this connection.tuning companys cant progamme ecus through this connection its only the renault clip that can programme new software updates through this.the clip can check all computers,do diagnostic checks, programme ecus(injection, aircon etc),check/erase the obd, check the multiplex network and reset/adjust ecu parameters all through this connection.

I remember reading on an audi forum a while back about someones Audi TT, they went to a Audi meet and there where a few members with laptops, all they did was plug it in and uploaded new software or something and he got good gains from it. But then again audi tt and a3/s3s etc can all be chipped to give excellent gains, so maybe a lil different in a clio??

This is where Superchips re-programmed my first 172,as opossed to putting a chip in they conected to this port and extracted the normal programme, which i still have on a thing called a customer key,and inputed their programme.

with the right software/equipment you could do but it may be more difficult on later models due to all diagnostics done through the multiplex wiring network.

just search on google obd2 mapping lots of info for non beleivers
a lot of diagnostic information is done through the multiplex wiring network which the diagnostic connection is wired into.there are other wires in the diagnostic connection also used for diagnosis as well as a power and an earth to power the clip can connection box.although the obd moniters certain computers it is actually a separate system but you still access it through this connection.

Yup, we remap the std ECU through that port.

I put red tape around the port so our garage knew that it was this one not to touch.

I think the Focus RSs are remapped using this port to using the Bluefin thingy...
