whats the fastest RS

  Turbos.
prob right actually, although i'd imagine they'd be around the same due to the extra horses.

At the end of the day each model with a bit of work can be as fast as any of the others basically same engine at the end of the day. Its mainly due to reducing weight etc

well I thought that too, but the Cup's usually make more than the other RS' on every RR day I have been to which is odd...

This would support Renault's claim that some Cup engines were bench tested. That's what i read anyway!

tis indeed! wonder if anyone ie edde can shed any light on this ;)

would be interesting to know why this is the case, as honestly, every RR day I have been to Cups always make bigger power compared to any other 172's, so factor in the lighter weight and that would go some way to explaining why they are the quickest of the MK2's

I was under the impression it was a limited number of the trophies that got bench tested lumps, Phase 1s had generally better inlet manifolds. The fact that alot of the cups didnt have CC and therefore no AC compressor to turn might explain a general trend for slightly higher output on a RR. But as has been said a million times on here the manifolds etc vary so much the actual power the engines put out varies car to car regardless of cup/non cup etc.

This subject has been done to death though.

  AMV8, Mk1 Golf
ah well it may have been well discussed but at leasts its a thread about cars, something of a minority on cs these days lol

  Leon Cupra R 225
Can you also give me the rest of the savings I need for my next Clio ownage car...? Probably a Nissan 350Z. :)

no probs mate! or i cud just buy u one in the new year when me dad buys his? what colour u want? lol

That fucked up orange/copper colour they do please, so it's more annoying to RS owners when they get owned. Also a roadster like my mates' Dad's, even more gay than the colour. :clown:

Yup. But that never has, and never will, stop the same people arguing the same thing over and over and over.

I'm pretty sure if the EVO-stat-loving, 1/4-mile-at-a-time merchants got laid they'd be less inclined to live a life akin to groundhog day.

Anyway. Forget BHP or KG or Nm or BS - The bottom line is they're close enough for the biological matter at the controls to make the biggest difference. In fact I wouldn't fancy my chances against Yoz in a 1.4 against me in my 172. lol. But then again I think of driving with corners involved, not going as fat as I can in straight line.

  1.6 16v
its all gd, so u want sun burned orange! i cant get that colour cos it will clash with my hair! (yes im ginger lol)!

yeh hes gettin one so i can has his audi rs4! total ownage! hahahaha

It's all about Bill Murray, It's groundhog day but the cast is made up of the idiot groundskeeper from caddyshack

My personal view is the CUps are more powerful only because there usualy been hammered more from new plus they have no power sapping air con system and less tensions to reduce power. After all hybrids are often the quickiest cars as they don't have PAS pumps on the cars either.

I the manifolds etc vary so much the actual power the engines put out varies car to car regardless of cup/non cup etc.

I think thats the key point so many engine differences you get good and bad ones.

Yep - I had my airconditioning removed, had a cup alternator installed [smaller than a FF] and it definately felt quicker and more responsive than before.

My FF is effectively a CUP with ABS of course [need a cut off switch like the VX] Oh and I have even got a cup gearbox!

  Vectra :(
Cant be bothered to read the posts here as probably the same as posted every other week. However i havent posted in ages so going to. feel free to ignore my 2 cents ;)

It doesnt matter if its a 172, 182, cup or non cup. The renault engines differ so much that it is down to the car. My old 172 FF made a massive 158bhp standard and got its arse handed to it on many occasions by other RS's and the like.

My current ph1 172 now its running nice will push a 172 cup in a straight line and has done to 2 or 3 now. Not had it RRed yet but i expect its a good engine as opposed to my old one.

In conclusion this whole disscussion is pointless, expecially when even by book speeds there is only .1 sec in it at time.

However isnt the meggy the faster RS now?

V6 might be argued to be quicker but its not realy in production.

Then again the 197 Cup racers would show them all up on track and upto about 130mph depending on gearing used. It maybe 30hp down but the gearbox and light weight helps.

But if were letting them enter then the other Renault series car make the whole road range look slow. The R26 or whatever last tears F1 car was quicker still and then there the smaller F1 looking cars the ones with the 3.5 liter engine and then ones with the 2.0 engines and the Meggan racers.

  BMW 535D
if you look at all the evo 0-100 tests on the 182, 182 cup, 172 cup, and trophy, they all reach the ton in around 17 secs give or take 0.2 of a sec, the same goes with the 0-60 time

only the ph2 172 was notceably slower to the ton in over 18secs, and ive got an old evo mag from 2002 with the 0-100 figs for the ph1 172 aswell which was just a shade over 18 secs.

makes little difference though, as 1 second's difference on the road is nothing at all! The difference comes down to each model's ability to go round corners :)

end of :p
