When i turn the laptop on it takes it ages to fire up the internet. it used to work straight away but now it takes 5 mins or so?

It a 'hp' and 9 months old!

thanks

Goto Start, Run, and type msconfig

Goto the Startup tab, and look for anything in there that you don't need when booting (Don't untick anything located in WINDOWS\system)

I have hundreds unticked now, as everytime you install a new software it appears to run on startup (in the background) which slows everything down including IE.

Things like MSN, HP Printer software, Google Update, Adobe etc etc.

Press Apply, Ok, and reboot.

You should see a difference straight away, once loaded, a pop up will show, tick the box and ok.

Let us know your findings :)

Same on all yes.

Just close anything you don't need that is a software, the comand will be something like 'C:\Program Files\.....

Anything in Program Files won't cause any problems if not run from bootup.

Use google chrome ;)

Could be a virus, mate of mine had a similar issue. Narrowed it down to a virus

Untick everything from startup - then you can manuall start up the ones you actually need.

Download CCleaner and run that, delete all the unused bullshit.

Also download smart defrag and optimise/defrag your drive.

And stop looking at dodgy horse p**n!
