Need to get some. Any ideas or recommendations to stop the spare getting damaged

You mean in the boot?

I'd just get some carpet offcuts or similar.

I had my boot floor/spare wheel well repaired/repainted. Ended up shaping some of that acoustic carpet to fit so the paint stays decent with the spare in.
