I read somewhere that the process of powder coating can cause the metal to weaken slightly and become brittle! Something to do with the temper process of strengthening the wheels (controlled heating and cooling during manufacture)...the powder coating process requires electric charge to be submitted to the alloy then they are heated to melt the powder which takes the temper out of the wheel. Make sure you use a specialist company as I think there is a way of powder coating without removing temper through excessive heat....a different heating process at a lower temp or something.
