started the refurb on my wheels, and ive filled most of the marks etc, but some need a bit of a touch up with some more filler, i take it i can layer the filler up?

also, how long do i leave it before i can spray??

yeah course you can.aslong as youve finished sanding and youve gone down to a smooth grade you can prime and spray it straight away!i used to do smart repairs for a car sales company so let me know if you need any help!

cheers for the help, just making sure it doesnt need to cure for a certain period.

hopefully i wont need any help, only done 1 wheel so far but seemed to go fairly easily, just used too much hardner and did it in the sun so hardened very fast!

live and learn!

Hi mate. I do refurbs as part of my apprenticeship.

Yes- you can layer the filler up, and if it's hard enough to sand its hard enough to spray on. You ideally want to go to halfrauds and get some primer (grey) to cover the filler with, you haven't got to larrop it on, just so it's covered, prob 2 coats.

If you dont prime it, you might have patches in the silver where the filler is.

Key up the primer with a bit of 1200 sandpaper or whatever you have to hand and paint straight on it.

Hope they turn out ok fella,

Alex.

cheers alex,

yeah i will be priming them up etc when i spray them, just had a few scuff marks from the previous owner and stuff so i though i may aswell do it properly and smooth them all over.

your better off using 800 wet on the primer mate or youll be there all day!and use a little fairy in the water this will get rid of any oil or brake dust you might have and reduce the chances of a reaction!

basically the wheels have been kerbed a bit on some chunks out, so filled them up, i sanded them down with 1200 forst, then put the filler on, smoothed it out a bit with 400, then 1200 and now 1500 just to get a nice finish,

some small patches need a bit more filler so i'll do that, then go all over again with 800/1200 then prime, go over again just to key the paint and then colour and laquer.

what kind of covering do i need with the primer, last set of wheels i did i primed perfectly like a top coat, not sure why to be honest, but whats the best amount?

all depends really!if its only slight curb marks and you havent used loads of filler just enough primer to cover it will be fine.just make sure you dont rub through it to much.as lond as its smooth really youll be alright.you should have used something alot rougher to start with on the wheels mate to make sure the filler has a proper key so the filler doesnt come off in chunks.should be ok if its only a little bit though

ah right, im hoping it will be fine, if not then ill start again, on the other 3 ill use a rougher grit like you said!

cheers for all the info, much appreciated mate.

no probs!use real rough stuff around where the scuff is so the filler really grips it because the last thing you want is a big chunk to come off when you get the tyres changed!
