Where is the sensor for 182 auto lights

  Mondeo STTDCI

Had a bit of a problem with my auto lights the other day. Came back to my car in daylight and the lights switched on (?!). Pulled over up the road and turned the engine off, then on again, and they behaved and didnt come on.

THEN I went through a tunnel and they came on, but stayed on when I came out! Dead confusing. Then a few miles up the road (in VERY bright sunshine) they suddenly switched off again.

I can only think there is a problem with either the sensor being dirty/blocked or whatever, or there is something wrong with the switch that turns em off (?)

Any ideas?

sensor is up on windscreen - by rear view mirror - take it to the dealer to make sure its ok - somtimes renault set the wrong configuration for the type of screen (tinted or heat reflective) i think they should all be set for tinted

Its NOT! Maybe I wasnt clear....I went through the Dartford Tunnel and came out Essex side...and thye didnt turn off until Dagenham!

This sensor...I take it its on the inside then of the window? Could a filthy windscreen affect it?

It normally stays on for a couple minutes afterwards, you should have been more clear.

Dirty windscreen does effect it.

Ill put it down to that and see how I get on this evening at dusk, though mine have been fairly instant on and off wise.

I wouldnt say its normal to stay on for a few minutes after. My car is garaged all the time and of course they come on when i start up but only take seconds to switch off once im out of the garage.

the sendor is behind the plastic housing at top of windscreen look from outside and you can see solar panel type material thats it.

the gold crystal type things are the water sensors.

So wheres the sensor for the whipers ,i thought that was the top of the windscreen,Also if the bars on the thicker bars does that mean its more sensitive,Thanks

Yes if you turn the cylinder on the stalk it makes it more sensitive. Im also pretty sure when on AUTO the rear wiper comes on when in reverse.

Now thats cool!
