Hi guys!
I'd like some help,
Im after as much info as i cud get, as i want to carry out a engine conversion myself, just generally interested and always wanted to do it! +im kinda tempted for more power as it weighs only 850kilos
I have a 96 1.2RL, although its getting me 50mpg and quite a laugh, im thinking of dropping something more powerful in there.
So, what engine is easyest to work in, cheapest to obtain, and best, in your opinion? I thought about a 1.8 valver - would that involve alot of messing around?? I know that whatever i get i'll need the gearbox, starter, probably clutch, ECU, fuel pump (?) - that go with the donor, new engine mounts, etc...
Would i need any new wiring???
Would i have to do any welding???.
Would the old driveshafts be up for it?
Would the old rad be enough to cool the new engine??
How about the actual physical fit - are the mounting points on the chassis in the same place for all clio's? And are the engines all same height (whats the reason for valvers having a bonnet bulge?), or similar ?? i appreciate larger displacement engines having longer stroke, but what is the difference in height in real life ???
How about the 19 16v lump - what work would that involve - is it the same engine used in the clio 1.8 16v's ???
What about the 1.7 volvo 440 engines i keep hearing about???
I was considering the R5 GTT as well, are they much less reliable, considering the boost???
Also i would like to know about the practical implications - for example impact on insurance and tax.
Its quite a list there, im just after as much info as poss!!
Thanks guys, i appreciate it !!!
