Which Graphics Card: GeForce 6600GT 128MB Or Quadro FX 540 128MB?

As title really:

Am building a PC out of new and old parts.

Friend has said I can have one of the above, so which one do I go for?

Computer will be mostly used for word processing, internet, picture storage. Every once in a while for games.

Spec is:

Asus A8N-SLi Deluxe + AMD 64 3200+
4GB OCZ PC3200
Segate Barracuda 80GB
Windows Vista 64

I have no idea which would be better, the nVidia site hasn't helped me either. A quick reply would be great!

Quadro FX cards are for commercial workstations, not your average home pc.

I realise that, but was unsure as to if I would be losing out by usng one or gaining something!

I use the quadro cards at uni for the CAD work we do.

The drivers are optimised for that sort of useage. You can get hacked drivers which allow it to perform better in games though should you want to.

I'd only buy one if you intend to use it for CAD work though.

It wont be used for CAD, I use my Gaming Machine for that, this is for the parents and I just want to choose the one that will last, and run Vista the most effiently!

I don't think it will make much difference if its for general gaming and computer work, its subject to cost at the end of the day!

Quadro FX cars are priced too silly. I guess the GeForce will be better as its cheap and less bespoke. Quadro is not made for PC gaming and realtime animation. It is more of a fine-tuning card to maximise renders and vector images.

GeForce is specificaly designed for upfront animation on gaming. If its for the parents, get the cheaper option! Its a no brainer conclusion! :rasp:

If not sure, go on ebay and get some filthy cheap general card...

Don't have to worry about cost! I have the two cards sitting infront of me! I just have to decide which one!
