Which Oil

Getting a full service done in a few weeks, and I wanna try a different oil.

Basically I narrowed it down to two...

Castoral RS stuff & the Mobil 1 Fully Synthetic oil.

Both are 0W-40...

Anyways the bloke said hell knock a fiver off, if I went for the Mobil 1 Oil which then went down the same price as the Castoral stuff. So i bought it.

Did i make a right move???

Ian

Yeah I checked it out they said...

"Helps improve and maintain fuel efficiency for the life of the oil (applies to 5W30 and 10W30 grades)"

I wanted 0W40 tho

Cheers boys, I think the Mobil 1 Stuff should be good enuff

Why?!

This may be too thin for the Willy engine, it is for the 172 mate!

I was told its best to get 0W as starts to work from the word go, especially now Winters on its way. I was told alfords and les Smiths to go for 0W-40 wot do u lot run???

Na 0W40 isnt too thin for the 172!!! where did you get told that???

i know sod about the willy engines, but going from what everyone who owns one says they burn a bit of oil!!!! think they should run 10w40???? (guess!!!)

Ask weight or BenH, BenR, Nick Read, Night Icon, Roamer etc etc etc

its fine to mix oils

you did ok goin for the Mobil 1........id say its probably better than Castrol RS, if your engine is high mileage or you do a LOT of givin it stick then it might have been better to go for the 15W-50, however that wont protect anywhere near as good in the cold and you wont need a 50 unless its gettin really hot a lot...

an yea it will start to work from the word go...

I just use Renaults own 10/40 semi-synth. Cant be much wrong with going for the original stuff! The cars only done 54k, so theres no need for a thicker oil.

Just checked the oil level on mine and it was approaching low level. mmmmmm

I thought Id phone renault manchester to find out what it was originally filled with.

service was closed, so I was put through to a salesman who told me all new renaults from there were filled with fully syth Mobile 1.

mmmm said I - are u supposed to run a car in on fully syth??

Oh yes was the reply.

sounded abit dodgy to me!! Phoned another bloke who said they used part synthetic

sounds like not even the dealers know what to put in - so I bought a litre of Magantec 10/40

dont u dare dis that mecca of automotive knowledge and skill!!

Those guys who work there might annoy u slightly with their "can I elp ya mate" but they are highly skilled mechanical wizards - Id trust my car in their capable hands anyday!

Nuff said!

And leave the sport out of this! The page with the massage ads is very usefull

;)

Cheers boys, considering I paid 30 quid for the stuff, i guess it aint too bad. I take it that 4 litres should be enuff for a complete oil change???

Um... I used to work for Halfords part-time in my youth. Some of the guys there were monkeys, but actually most of them were pretty good in terms of knowledge! (I worked in three different stores too)
