A software update is in the pipe line to resolve this

The new Road Angel Plus and Compact have this feature tho.

Good to see they are taking this step. I spoke with them during December and they told me they had no plans to offer this feature as an update to the RA2, I was told only the Compact and future models would have this feature. Nice to see they've had a change of heart.

Decemeber was one of the release dates for the software !!

Maybe there telling different things to consumers and re-sellers !

Out of them all the Origin B2 does offer the best features and database accuracy. I've never known it to be wrong and if updated often it usually knows the location of newly installed roadworks cameras, the other manufacturers never do seem to be as good at keeping their systems updated.

Left house after updating my Origin B2 and Road Angel 2

Camera installed in roadworks the night before.

Origin picked it up, Road Angel missed it.

Road Angel picked it up 3 days after it had been placed.

Exactly the reason why I'd recommend the B2

The same works in reverse, if the temp camera is removed the B2 is usually updated almost instantly whereas the other makes can often have these locations for a long time.

I'd recomment the MicroGO or the RA Compact. Both will do an adequate job and cost the same price new. MicroGO is slightly more compact and styled better.

I read about the pitfalls of buying off of there, so i asked the dude a load of questions.
- is there any way of telling before I buy it (assuming i win) if its stolen etc ? (would i just need the serial number ?) I could ask them for it, but i doubt they'd let me have it.

Serial number would be your best bet as you could phone and check that the unit is ok to buy. Having said that you've no guarantee that's the actual unit you'll receive. Buy from someone with a proven feedback history.

Erm you can check seriel number with origin,

but also remember when you register you need to show which company you baught it from.

If you can proove it, then you only have a 28 day warrenty unlike a normal 2 year one.

The warranty really is worthwhile as both units I've owned developed strange faults related to the seating of them into the incar cradle. If you have the warranty then you can probably get a straight swap for a brand new unit, as I have done in the past.

If it's not from an authorised dealer then you'll not get the full warranty. You could always phone Origin and ask for advice prior to purchasing.

I wud have the warrenty, its well worth it.

Basicly when we sell a unit we have to inform the company, in this case Origin.

Then when you come to register, you have to put down purchase details and they verify that way.....

You've got to decide if you are saving enough in the purchase to warrant losing out on the warranty. Do you have any guarantee that the unit has never been used as if it has then you may well still need to purchase a subscription for the service?

There is also a £35 transfer fee to change ownership.

As the 6mnth free subs wud have to have been registered to be used.
