which wires to snip

i want to wire my boot neons up so they light when the boot opens. So i thought id use the boot lighting circuit. I thought there would be just 2 wires but there are 3. Anybody got an idea which ones are positive and negative, before i start aimless snipping.

i forgot to add its a mk1 172

umm, i think one of them goes to the switch which is released when the boot is opened, just have a look to see which 2 wires go to the standard boot light in there, then just wire ur neons up

Or get a multimeter and check which is positive and negative..
