hmmm, once had jbl 6x9s ages ago, were great but had really poor sound up front so got that "music from the back" feeling......need to kinda convince myself to take the box out, need space etc. but dont want crappy sound.

JBL 5.25" comps front and rear, amped, Alpine HU.

Totally lacking bass IMO but still a lot better than standard. Main problem is small speaker diameter I think. Im looking at an under-seat powered sub unit at the moment, something like this http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_id/4132.htmlKenwood unit. Not sure how much bass itll give, but got to be an improvement (a sub box in the boot isnt an option for me, I need every bit of load space...). Might be an option for you if youre losing the box but still want bass.

Check out reviews of the Kenwood http://www.crutchfield.com/S-XsQw2hUI87t/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?g=51000&id=review&i=113KSCSW1#Tabhere.

Have got a Sony MEX-1HD headunit, standard speakers and no subwoofer.

Gonna get either PG or Infinity components soon thou and run them off my Kenwood amp

My clios rattle enough as they are with out helping them along

  RenaultSport Clio 172 Mk2

Standard Renault HU
Infinity Kappa 50.5 CS Components (amped)
Standard rears (unamped)
JBL GTO 75.4 4-channel amp (2 channels spare to bridge in case I decide to get a sub in the future)

hhmmmm, thanks for the input, I unplugged the sub last night and had a listen so the front comps werent amped - sounded good on som songs - pop type stuff, but noticed the diff. on some rnb type stuff.

so if the comps were amped what sort of diff would it be to them running off the deck.

oh I checked at 4ohm my amp is 50W a channel and my speakers are rated a 60rms so they would be a good match I think.
