Who purchases Domain names?

mas

Car  MK7 GTD & Mini GP
Any of you guys buy domain names as investments?

Whats the crack with it, and re-selling them? Any tips?

I have quite a few now and looking to market them

Thanks

Sam

Iv tried sedo parking, seems expensive so not really looked in to it too much!

Is there good money to be made?

I have tried sedo before and it's a waste of time to be honest. Not really any money to be made these days I'm afraid :(

There used to be money in it, especially the cybersquatting stuff, but companies now have much greater control over their domains :p

Google has an advertising alternative to Sedo, AdSense basically.

Personally think its a pretty immoral thing to do, it is not regulated enough. Incredibly annoying when you want a particular domain - not even a special one - and some moron has taken it and wants a billion pounds for it.

Bear in mind if you buy Nicrosoft.com or something its quite easy for companies to claim the domain as there own because of your false misrepresentation.

I dont buy domains similar to other companies, I dont see the point. Im not buying them expecting to make money from traffic, i have made about $0.000000002 on one of my sedo domains though ha!

Any tips on marketing domains?

there is a law pretty much againt with holding a domain from a company who can prove they need/warrant it more than you do or selling it to them for too high a price
e.g.
you buy www.coke.co.uk and hold it
Mr coke wants it and ask's to buy it
you say, £1,000,000 please
they take you to court and prove you dont need it or have anything to do with coke
they make you sell it for a reasonable price to them.
always nice i think

there must be away around it, making a product to suit may do it.

I agree with that, sucks.

For example I have bought a domain which expired called

www.govisit.co.uk

I have sent emails out to travel agents and event organisers, offering them the domain to purchase.

Some have enquired further and hopefully will have a buyer for it soon'ish, if not, I will park it and try to get some traffic.

One day, someone's going to register a domain you really want for yourself, and they're going to want stupid, stupid money for it..

Ah well.

Altho, if you can't beat them... join them... ;)
