why a 5k kick?

why is there a 5k kick when driving 1*2s? is it just the point at the engine can make use of the air coming in? i cant see it being the vvt as that comes on at 1800rpm and swithces off at 6500 rpm and as far as im aware is used to give better low down torque and responce? any one explain it?

as far as im aware its when the profile of the cam changes or its when the extra cam comes into play, not totally clued up on the workings of the engine but think its something like that causing the kick

The induction system, the length of the intake runners, the length of the pipes in the exhaust manifold and the cam timing and duration can all be tuned in an engine to work best at a particular rev range. If you tune them all to work best at the same rev range you'll get a significant boost in power, a kick, as you come into that rev range. Renault's done that with the Clio sport engine. It comes into that rev range that everything is tuned best for at about 4500 rpm, and falls out of the top of that optimal rev range at about 6500 rpm.

its where the engine is experiencing peak volumetric efficiency. partly to do with what Gordon has said, also there is always going to be a range of engine speeds, where piston speed versus gas speed cause optimum cylinder filling.
