looked at loads of pics and most have it off, any reason for taking it off? my 1.2 doesnt have any on thers no sign of it ever being there.

  ph 2, 172.
its has holes in the carpet where clips go on into the bonnet.

its just to get more sound from the engine tbh i think thats the main reason.

id like mine queiter on the motorway as it sounds crap but i doubt id fine any in good conditon though, i dont think it even come out the factory with it on as it was standard when i got the car and i cant see the previous owners removing it.

I've got it on mine, so it musn't be exclusive to the sports and diesels. Most people take it off to make the bay look tidier, a la Vicky.

  SG9 Forester STi
Nope no difference at all, but it makes it easier to clean under there and looks a lot neater without it.

  Cupped 200
Mine not too, at least not at the Bonnet... but the Cup ones have reduced Soundproofing anyway (mines a cupped, not a cup one). For the Thread: I dont know if that helps but probably same in UK as in DE, when fitting a Open Airfilter its obligatory to fit a soundproofing mat... (not always checked for in reality... )

  BG 182 FF
My old 1.2 didn't sound proofing under the bonnet from brand new, reno being pikies probably lol. But I am taking mine off the 182 as 2 of the grommets have fell out and is flapping about.

I doubt it makes any different to sound inside the car since it's the bulkhead that serparates the engine to the interior - more likely it affects externally/driveby perhaps?

  A thirsty 172
I think they all came with it and some people have just taken it off for whatever reason. Bonnet respray / crash / sound / weight saving (not that it saves much) etc...

  M2 Competition
It weighs practically nothing, only difference is sound.

It does make a difference to sound in the cabin, although it lets in more of the tappety types sounds, and sound in traffic. A slight rise in induction noise out for a blast, but on the whole, i think the car sounds better with it fitted.

I always thought with 197's that Cups didn't have it and all the others did??

Unless someones took it off mk2 wise everything barring the 1.2 models (8 and 16 valve) and the 172 cup would have left the factory with underbonnet carpet. Personal choice, wear or a non thorough accident repair as it won't be. All of mine barring the 1.2 have had it fitted.

Ive got two carpets if you want to buy one.

Has anyone who has taken their's off got any of the black grommets spare that hold the soundproofing on the bonnet? A few of mine have fallen out and would like to replace them, strangely can't seem to get them from Renault.

  PS 200
I'd have said it was more heat protection than sound proofing tbh.

Renault paint & heat from engine probably not a good combo.

Likely to be more an issue in warmer climates :).

Can't see that stuff having any effect on sound levels.
