Why is my mac so slowwwww?

  SchwepTek™
I know there are a few mac gurus on here.

I have a 2006 iMac (white) with 2.16 core 2 duo processor and 3gb RAM.

I really cant be bothered to format and start from scratch and have tried repairing permissions, etc but it stills seems to be running really slowly compared to normal.

Safari takes ages just to load a webpage...it hangs with the little spinny thing.

Any ideas folks?

:(

Is it only webpages that are slow? could be your connection.

No its not the internet. (i have a 20mb connection ;)) When opening some pages or other apps it just hangs for ages, the app not the internet.

try repairing disk permissions, and verifying disk permissions from disk utility as an absolute first port of call.

try reseting safari - click safari up by the blue apple whilst in the app, reset safari is the 6th option down.

for optimum hd efficiency you should have around 10% free around 20-25gb i would guess.

if all else fail pop down western computers n i'll sort you ... i got given a g5 tower today!! bloke bought a mac pro n left his old g5 wahoo

mine used to be slow about 6 months after I got it... Downloaded a couple of clean up programs and made sure there wasn't random s**t on the desktop and in my applications folder, cleaned up the hard drive in Disk Utility and it seems so much better now.

i'll pm u morrow for a laugh if u like u shouldnt need more than 6gb dependin on how many tracks n effects etc so an extra kit of 4gb in 2x2gb would be sweet, i can do 4gb of macbook ram for £45 i think but that ram is dirt cheap at the mo :p
