Why would you choose a mac over a PC?

  Fiat Panda 100hp
I have recently stared uni doing graphic design. And they have macs for us to use.

But, I have the whole CS3 suite on my PC and is just as quick as using on a mac if not quicker. I am quick on a pc and im so fluent using it. hardly ever crashes. I really cant see what makes mac's so desirable to designers. My mate on the course has a mac laptop and the new leopard OS, and he keeps showing me the cool things, like spaces etc, but it all seems like eye candy etc. I dont need spaces as I have 2 monitors, but if I did there are programs for Windows that will let one have virtual desktops.

So whats so good about macs?

Discuss.

The G5 has a really nice case, other than that - sod all.

The mac fanboys will be up in arms at the thought, but the truth is the mac is over-rated, overpriced crap, i've had to use them for years, first one was a 133MHz one, that was s**t, the OS was s**t and it cost a fortune - nothings changed.

Best ever crapple product is this

Traditionally most design agencies always used Macs after adopting that platform early on, and lots still do now - I have not been into any (non web based) ones that don't either - hence the use of Macs in college to prepare you for life in the design industry.

I have used CS3 on both PC's and Macs and as you say it woks fine on either.

I own a PC, but I have to admit I'm seriously considering a Macbook laptop. Apart from the macs being more reliable, they are less prone to viruses/hacking as less people use them, and there is less mal-ware out there. All in all, yes there is more software out there for pcs, but macs tend to use the software in a better way - more quickly and more smoothly. Having used video editing software on both, I found that the Mac was miles quicker and easier to use than the PC equivelent (even the inbuilt movie editor that comes with Macs is pretty damn good!)
Its the way of the world - office computers will be PCs, design computers will be Macs.

We get problems with both PCs and Macs at work, both reliable most of the time, depends on the apps you choose to run on them, just depends on your personal preference.

i leave my pc on for weeks at a time and never have to restart it.

yer I was just about to say, I have my PC running for weeks at a time, with no drop in performance or anything.

I think its down to the user. If you know what your doing a PC is just as good as a mac when it comes to design.

At xmas I am buying a Windows based laptop and have linux dual boot, the guys at uni will think im crazy but windows and linux combo ftw.

I'm defo a PC man for everything at home (games, web etc) but in work I use a mac all day (been using macs for 10 years 5 days a week for 9hrs a day). I find using CS on the mac much cleaner and it just feels a lot better than CS on the home PC.

I've never had any issues with macs (except my G5 logic board died once) in the 10 years I've worked on them but PC's can be a nightmare sometimes. Having said that I'd never have a mac at home.

My work mac is just a tool that i'm used to using everyday.

I use PC at work and Mac at home, i am far more quicker on the pc as i work with it all day every day, but photoshop does tend to crash quite a bit and it does hang frequeently when working on big files in InDesign and photoshop.

The Mac doesnt, ever.

I think most of you are mixing a PC and Windows up.

PC (Personal Computer) = hardware and will run a variety of OS's.

It bugs me ;)

I've worked in tech support and when you ask what they use and they respond with "a pc" it gets to you after a while.

We all know what PC means :) its just much easier to say PC rather than windows based computer system!

You in the wrong job if that bugs you :p
