Wap is incorrect.

Its barely used now and its a protocol not a connection method.

2 Types of connections on a mobile;

1. GPRS/EDGE/3G, Basicaly use the GSM network to send/receive data (Up to 7.2mbps)

2. Wifi, usually at home/work or provided by an operator (BT, Cloud, T-Mobile who rarely include this in a mobile tarrif)

A phone with wifi can browse at higher speeds and if its any good the transition between a mobile network and a wifi network should be seamless.
