Will it run too lean

At the moment im running a full supersprint De-Cat, if i fit a Pipercross open Induction kit do you think this will either.....

1. Give me more power
2. Lose Power
3. Make the engine run too lean.

Im grateful of any advice.

It depends wacko,if its not getting enough cold air it will lose power. If it does get enough cold air it may run slightly lean.

I bought a hillpower ik and nick told me id be better with r-sport ecu to compensate the fueling, but hillpower ik has a heatsheild so gets better cold air,you maybe better get something like this or viper etc,as an open ik under a 172 bonnet is going to draw so much heat.

I agree.

Probably just get rid of it then. Anyway my car goes into Renault every month to be fixed and its starting to piss me off taking the ik on and off.

I saw many people telling us that the engine will run lean after fitting an cold induction kit but so far, I still dont know what do you mean by lean ? Any reference AFR ?

Too much air (flow) and not enough petrol.

So with a free flowing exhaust and more air coming in from the Induction kit there isnt the extra petrol avaliable to compensate. Thats why you should get it chipped as well which will increase the amount of petrol added.

The only real way to tell for definate is get it on the rollers...

the increased airflow difference wud be neglagable. not enough of an air increase to cause problems with running lean n stuff

you cant, the regulator is inside the fuel tank.

And its the inlet air temp that causes a lean condition, flow increase isnt that large.

Taxi Two, running lean....an A/F ratio that is too high and causes high combustion temps and bad combustion characteristics like pinking, knock and possibly detonation, which damages pistons and rings.

would one of those risin rate fuel pressure guages help solve this?
on a early mk1 yes because the fuel rail has a return and a feed so the valve can be fitted.but most 172s and all later 16v engines only have a feed to the rail and the regulator is in the sender unit/fuel pump so its not possible to fit the valve.
