Windscreen pump not working

The windscreen washer pump does not spray but still works as you can hear it working, iv also removed all the tubes to check doe blockages but all good. Water does not come out of any of the ports on the pump.

On closer inspection water can be seen filling up inside the sensor plug!

Its almost like the pump is filling up with water and is coming out of the electric sensor socket and not the actual tube.

Any ideas? Surly this can be fixed?!

Hi, have a look at the thread I posted about my washer pump. Just buy and fit a new one and save hours of agro.

Yup plenty of us have had this problem... you can get a new one from Euro Car Parts for £7 (although I think it might have gone up recently) but for some reason their part number is wrong and you don't want the Clio 2.0 one, I think it was a Laguna 2.0 one.

It is a b**ch of a job, but there's a guide on here. You're going to have fun getting the wipers off, I had to buy a ball joint separator from Halfords.

ok, im gonna throw in a curveball here.

my car was in the garage a couple of months ago and they looked at the washers as neither the front or back was spraying, even though I could hear the pump working. They sorted it and said they saw water coming out. They had ordered a new washer pump and fitted. I picked up the car and still the same problem. They say that there may be a kink in the pipe but it doesn't look that way so...

Theyve said to go back and they will sort it but what on earth could be wrong?

Could be the pump has shifted slightly, it comes outta place quite easily. Take it you've changed the actual jets?

There's a bung which goes between the front and back tubes to shut one off, it swells and blocks them off. It can be trimmed, if you get it out.

I think it's possible to blow it to one side using compressed air at the jet end, but it will move back the next time the washers are used and block them again. So you think it's fixed until the next time you come to use it.

easy enough to fit? as I believe mine has packed up

You have to remove wipers and scuttle panel, the pump just slides up from the bottle...make sure the rubber grommet does not come out.

The hardest part is removing the wipers as they will prob be seized, you will need a puller or molegrips of some kind. I would put copper slip on them when fitting just in case you have to access it again.

In regards to part number, I dont have that at hand, the guys will know as long as you provide a reg number

Define easy lol... it's not 'hard' but it's very frustrating. You may end up punching a wall, especially if you drop the rubber bung into the container like me!

Mine went last year, took it to cousins garage and he fitted me a brand new pump.
£15 or something plus £15 to fit it.

Not been a problem since
