Wireles routers question

  Mercedes AMG GLE 53
I want to get a wireless router but dont want to spend a fortune.
Have noticed that linksys ones seem quite popular. Are they any good? They are about the money i want to spend.

Cheers

Apparently the linksys ones can be a bit of an arse, but then again I've heard of problems with netgear and belkin. I've had a belkin 1 at home and never had any problems.

Which belkin one have you got?
Also i forgot to say my phone line is will ntl at the moment, but i will eventually be going back to bt. Will this make any difference?

Don't have the belkin 1 anymore and cant remember which 1 it was. Depends how ur connection is set up currently and how it will be with BT. If ur using a modem that came with NTL it will work for both but u will have to buy just a modem for your BT line to plug into the router. These are harder to come by as they are usually modem/router in one.

Ok the score is i currently have ntl broadband but that is going.

So i will be getting a new broadband supplier (not sure which yet) and will be using the ntl phone line initially until i get bt reconnected.
Also for a short while i will be using dial up.
Then i presume i will get a modem from whichever bb isp i choose.
Hope this makes sense.

Cheers Dave

got netgear and belkin ones - never a problem.

Had problems with Linksys a couple of times.

Make sure you dont get one designed for cable and one with built in ADSL modem mixed up :)

NTL is cable broadband, it doesnt use a BT phone line. so you can get one for around £30. basically u use your exisitng NTL modem and then plug that into your wifi router.

If you use ADSL (BT line) broadband then you will need to check the modem that bt supply you with, it needs an ethernet (cat5) out so you can plug that into your adsl router, failing that you need an adsl router with a built in modem to pick up the broad channel on the phone line

i had belkin worked fine for like 2 years. got bt hub now, the firstone they sent didn't work properly for like a week, then it blew itself up, so after speakign to india for 5 hours they sent a replacement 1 week later, and that one as been working fine for 2 weeks now. quite complicated to set up compared to the belkin

I had a Netgear one, it was so f**king useless that i eventually grabbed one end firmly and whacked it against the edge of my desk until it broke into 3 bits, replaced it with a Linksys, wired/wireless router with firewall, its never given me a second of trouble.
