I'm not an expert but I think you can set up what's called an ad-hoc one or something where your laptop piggy backs off the pc. Pc has to be on at same time.

Or get a router.

you might be able to share the connection by setting it up on the pc as a shared network connection.

not entirely sure how, one for the experts on here...

yeah got it showing a ad-hoc connection on the laptop but sweet fa on the pc.

pc is on all the time anyway as it runs a wired network to the rest of the house.

Much easier and "better" to have an access point - they arn't that expensive.

Infact, I've never seen a wireless network with no access point.. ever.. :p

yes, and cheap as chips now days.

it can be done laptop to pc, but like mentioned you need the pc on at all times, and its simply a shared net connection not a proper network.

as i said the pc is on all the time anyway

well i don't want a network as such just the net on the laptop

I used to run a set up like this, ran in Adhoc mode but the desktop hated it and kept locking up so I bouhjt a Wireless modem, easier to set up and you don't have to have the desktop on continuously

Just make sure you get a Wireless Router. Then WAN port on the router into your cable modem, and then the PC/Laptop on wireless. Sorted.. (and it'll be a much better set up.. :D)

Yes it will work, but you might find the signal strength a lot lower than if you used an access point with proper antennas. TBH they're so cheap these days you might as well buy a wireless router of some kind.
