Wireless Networking Help

I have a Netgear 54Mbps wireless adsl firewall router (think model number is DG834G). However, not meaning to be big headed, but we have a rather big house, and the signal isn't very good in certain areas of the house. Can only really get an excellent signal in a couple of rooms right near the router.

Is there anyway of improving the signal? Signal booster?!

If not, does anybody have any ideas of how to get a good signal throughout the whole house, even if this means buying a new router.

You can buy wireless signal boosters, I have seen them in PC World Business, do a seach in Google

Put them close to central heating piping? It may help to carry the signal, its certainly a cheap and relatively easy option. Is it an old well built house or modern lego house?
