Wireless Networking

  Nissan Jewk
My brother in law built a pc for my wife, installed windows 7 on it, the only thing he's yet to do is add any sort of network card on it. The 2 of them have fallen out and i've now got the pc to finish the job. Am I right in thinking I can just go buy a wireless PCI card to fit inside the PC? I do worry that that's too simple and also worry about Win7 compatability?

I'd rather go wireless than wired because of where the PC will be located in the room.

Thanks :)

(and yes Waitey, before you say it again, i'm short )

No need to worry about Windows 7 compatibility Mikey unless you plan on getting a 10 year old card from a boot sale.

Not true in my experience, I've got newish cards that don't want to know Windows 7, best to check compatibility. But to be honest I'd recommend powerline adapters over wireless networking.

lol, just on eBuyer at the minute, any makes to go for/avoid? They range from £20 to £50 but to be honest, i've not really any idea what the difference between them is

Stupid question time. I have my powerline adaptor, but the Virgin setup I have means I have a seperate modem and a netgear router. Is this setup wrong:

Router > Ethernet cable > Modem > Plug into Powerline and also have an ethernet cable from the Router to the Powerline?

I tried conecting ethernet cable directly from modem to powerline, but that killed my wireless.

If anyone can confirm? kthxbai.

I put a 5 year old card into WIN 7 and it works fine, although i did have to use a Vista driver from the manufacturer lol.

It was one of the first wireless G cards so its not a pretty looking thing lol.
