Wiring Alpine headunit

Clio 182 LY + Cup packs

Hi guys, just recieved my new Alpine CDA 9833R, luks a quality piece of kit. I have been told that I have to wire it to the battery as its a 60watt headunit, is this correct?

To be honest im quite tempted just to wire it straight into my ISO connectors as this will take me 2mins to swap over from my sony unit. Is this going to be ok to do or will I have problems?

If I do need to have a direct connection I take it I should be connecting it to the YELLOW constant wire rather than the Red Switch wire? Also will I not need to run a new earth also, or will the one from the cars ISO be sufficient? One other question is can I run the wire from the fusebox or does it have to be from the battery?

Cheers in advance

I ran my yellow wire direct from my battery with afuse in the engine bay and a seprate earth. My thinking is they tell you to do that for a reason, not just for fun!

What rating does the stereo inline fuse have?

My 9835 is on 15amps and thats fine for just connecting to the normal loom.

yeah i just connected to normal loom in the end and Been to Birmingham and back from leeds 2day listening to the stereo quite load and its been fine

^ just out of interest, are you running the internal amps or are you running any extra amps in your car? Have you run it on high volumes and felt the power cables?

I would advise against doing that, purley for the fact that the current draw is well over the current draw of a stock HU, and the reason alpine sugest it is that often over the ampage rating of the wires in the loom.

Plus, it might be negliable when looking at an HU, but the wiring woudnt be as good, so there may be a volatge drop, therefore HU wouldnt run at full output.

IMO - its not hard, and its safe, and what they recomened, if anything were to go wrong and it was installed incorectly, you defo would not have a leg to stnad on for compensation

They recommend a direct feed on the 2003 models but my 2004 one doesnt say anything.

Not only that, the power wires are into an ISO plug on the 2004 models and on the 2003 ones they were left with a heavy duty bullet connector.

I guess they did something inside the unit to make it as powerful but draw less current.

would they be able to do this???

surely they would have to make the internal amp nearly 100% efficent?
