So I decided to do an ad-aware scan on it as i've been a bit lazy & not done one for a couple of weeks. I had 108 problems - in 1 min 30 secs 
I did a spybot one on friday & that racked up a few things too, got those sorted.
Hopefully after the ad-aware it'll free it up a bit & it won't run like the handbrake is stuck on
