Wrapping

Afternoon CS,

What sort of money would I be looking at for a full wrap of a Ph2 Mk2 Clio, and do I have to inform my insurer/DVSA as a modification?

Found a place in Manchester that starts at £900, wondered if that was about average?

Informing DVLA is a legal requirement. Insurance is not too fussy about that. I got quoted £600 in southampton. Tbh if you have an extra pair of hands you can do it yourself and save £150-200. All you need is the wrap (matte or gloss are usually £12-17 per metre), a heat gun (£70) and a set of wrap tools (scalpel, clips and weeding&burnishing tools, £15)

Other way round mate, it's your insurance that needs to be aware of the colour change, the car doesn't need to be registered with the dvla as a different colour because its seen as a temporary colour change, and you can prove it's still the same colour by opening your door to reveal the sill colour.

The guy charging £600 must be willing to do it for nothing pretty much, it's not an easy job plus it's £150-200 in materials on a Clio. Should be looking at close to £1000.

Price depends on who does it.

If it's a proper.company more around 1k.

If it's a chap in his garage doing it for cash on the side then more like £500-£700.
And it depends on the wrap used.

I'd like to have a go at wrapping a car, wrapped loads of smaller bits in the past. I can imagine it being hard on cut outs in bumpers like the holes in a phase 1 front bumper would be an issue i think.

The police use the DVLA database. if they're looking for a red car and it's now wrapped yellow, it becomes a slight issue! Lol

The insurance won't pay for what you haven't chosen to have insured. It's one thing to declare something and something completely different to have it insured

I have contacted Directline yesterday and asked that they add my new wrap to my Policy. And they said ok...
if i crashed they would take into account the cost of repairs Inc wrapping a new body panel if required.
