WTF Can This Be ?

Well after a 70mile round trip to the garage i have now got a rough idea what it is.

Drove all the way to SWR and had them look at it and hear it, Before i even got out the car Michael told me what it was right away.

He said he has it it on a Clio Sport before and it was a worn caliper.

So next up is 2 full new rear brake callipers, New fitting kit and new rear pads.

Clearly a stone stuck in the tread of the 16

Clearly only happens when braking and only going forward.

In the last commenst i have cleaned the wheels and checked them aswell as had them balanced and pumped up.
Wheels are straight, No air leaks and drives fine.

As i keep saying only happens when you put the brakes on going forward.

Not a worn caliper but a sticking / seized caliper.

I could not think of the word when posting.

:S that a head blag , just to throw it out there its not something silly like the centre cap loose on the 16? , had that before but doesn't explain why only when braking :S just a thought out loud !

Cant see how a 'Worn caliper' would cause this ?

Marc,

Sorry to bring up an old topic but I have the same problem. Did you ever confirm that it was a sticking calliper and solve the issue?

Spoke to SWR twice on this issue and they have driven the car, Seen the problem and heard the problem.

I have replaced everything apart from the caliper itself.

Michael who owns SWR said he had this on his 172 and it took him ages to sort it but it turned out to be the rear calipers, as soon as i pulled up he was outside and he heard it and told me straight away what the issue was. As i say they have checked it twice and everything seems fine.
He said something about play in the caliper or something and he knew exactly what was causing it but it would cost me two rear calipers.

I have just replaced my rear Carriers, Pads & Fitting kit and everything has been checked and tightened and its not been back since.

He has said i can keep throwing money at pointless parts like discs, pads, carriers, fitting kits and anything else but to actually fix the problem and stop this clicking i would need to change the caliper.

Cool, at least he knew what it was.

I know that my O/S/R slider is a little sticky so I think I might try and free that off a little bit and if that has no effect then just buy a pair of new rear callipers!!

SWR told me that i would be better off buying new calipers but i have never got round to doing it, Since everything has been changed (apart from the calipers) and its all been tightened up there has been no clicking at all.
