looking to put a small bit of mesh on the air intakes in the front of my phase 3 clio, but to go on the cheap side, would chicken wire do the trick?

My mate went to Homebase and got chicken wire to put on his Escort GTi and it looked totally sh!te. Doing 120 on the way to Trax didnt do it any favours either, its all falling out after losing its shape and breaking
