Xbox Buggered, help me, error 07

  don't
ok got a problem

went to play on my other halfs xbox (old style, clear one) last night

its 15 months old and out of warranty, not been used for about 2 months

anyway

Turned it on and its all good, green xbox thing comes on screen, you then here click click click from the xbox, only quietly, may have done that already

stays on the green xbox sign for ages, then just goes to a black screen with writing in lots of languages saying contact customer support

error no. 07 in top left corner

did some searching and it looks like its a hard drive problem?

anyone ever had anything like this,

After I checked it was out of warranty I got to work and took it apart, took the IDE cable out of the hard drive and dvd bit, and re-connected, re-tried the xbox and it just did the same thing

Seen someone suggest changing the IDE cable, and if still no luck try a different hard drive

IDE cable on ebay at the moment for £2.50 so I'll prob try that first, then I'll have to get a different harddrive if still no luck, again probably off ebay for up to £10 by the looks of things

Error 07 is a hard disk timeout, the clicking is the head trying to read the disc, sounds knackered. Call the Xbox support guys, they may offer a free replacement as its not that far out of warranty

hmmm, i doubt they'd cover it tbh

+ they'd probably want it sent to them, postage costs

then I've opened it now so thats no good, they'll just send it back

I'll try the IDE cable when it comes on weds, if no luck i'll get a new hard drive for £8 off ebay and go from there, hopefully that will fix it though

bit of a pain as it hasn't really had that much use since its been bought

Doubt it will be the IDE cable.. if you aint been moving it there is slim to no chance of it going faulty.. deffinatly the HDD if its ticking..

I dont think you will just be able to get a new one of ebay as they are hardware locked to the serial number on the xbox's MB IIRC. The easiest way round that problem would be to chip it.

bugger, wont bid any higher than then £1.59 I already have on a different harddrive then

I thought a different harddrive would work fine if i just swapped them over, I thought it would only get messy if i changed the motherboard

I'll have to get all the serial no.s etc and ring microsoft help from work

don't think i'd know where to start on chipping it :-(

I could be wrong mate, but its worth checking before spending the money..

www.xbox-scene.com would be your best bet.. ask on the forums there.. or do a search.

hmmm looks like you may be right

I'm still currently winning an xbox harddrive for £1.59 + £2 postage lol

no-ones outbidding me, not too bothered really, might still be worth a try

I'll get the serial no etc tonight and then i'll call them tomorrow to see what they say, if its not good news i'll probably just sell it on ebay as a broken xbox, then he can just use his ps2 until the ps3 comes out as he'll no doubt get one of those
