if someone could explain to me the ins and outs, what is what etc etc, that would be great, i am looking into getting one and am unsure,

ie, 360 arcade, 360 elite, any knowledge/help appreciated

neil

Arcade has no Hard drive so you can't play online

Elite has a hard drive so you can play online, install games to disc etc (pretty essential tbh!)

Both models now come with a wireless controller and HDMI.

Alternativly buy a cheap arcade and a HD off the bay if you want to go on line.

Basically. Don't get an arcade. Elite is 'the best', premium is elite but not black iirc. So get a premium or elite. As you need a hdd for saving games. But the elite has a bigger hdd, which is handy for saving games.

Arcade doesn't come with a hard drive, Premium does and so does Elite. No point in the arcade unless you either don't save your games or you already own a hard drive for the console. Hope that helps mate.

the superelite is the best model, with a 250gb hard drive...no hdmi cable though! stinker, but I did get MW2 with it!

arcade has 256mb internal so you can technically play online, but you will struggle with game saves etc in no time.

The regular machine will do you, Neil. If you can stretch to the Elite, then it'll be better, long term.

Get Forza 3 though... we have some ace races on there.

Definitely get one with a big hard drive. It's all about installing the games onto it as the noisy disc drive doesn't have to spin up then so it runs really quietly.

the regular machine being called???...lol

xbox 360 normal
xbow 260 regular????...

Premium mate, although they seem to change the name every few months! I have the 20GB one and still a fair bit of space, but if I was buying now I would definitely go for the 250GB version, as there are so many good arcade games alone to fill the disk up with!

We bought an Arcade, used it for 2 days before we had to buy a hard-drive. Many things (that they don't even mention on the game boxes sometimes) are completely unusable without an HD. Forza 3 for example, has loads of content (cars and tracks) on an additional disk which has to be installed direct to HD, you also can't view replays without a HD.

Ended up buying the 60GB LIVE Starter Pack, found that cheap at the time so didn't end up really losing out thankfully.

Another annoyance (particularly with Microsoft games) is that you need to be a Gold LIVE member to access quite a bit of stuff. I assumed Gold was just for actually playing online, but with Forza you can't access leaderboards, set up custom one player races, use the marketplace or anything like that without Gold, you can't even download free content you get with the Limited Edition version of the game.

Whatever you do buy the biggest HHD you can get. As said above, running the games from the disc makes so much noise, so installing the games to run direct from the HDD is the only way to go.

Do that with a few games, download some Arcade classics, install a few CDs of music, download a movie or two and 60GB doesn't seem quite so big.

I bought a 120GB Elite and now wish I'd gone for the 250GB.
