xenon lights and washers

Car  AMV8, Mk1 Golf
will a car fail its mot if the washer jets have been removed or is it one of them things you can get away with?

they just look so damm ugly

do you mean the small ones stuck to the bumper?surely you dont need these as not every car has them!

I was under the impression that it was a legal requirment to have washer jets if you had xenon lights.

That's correct, but I'm pretty sure you won't fail an MOT if you don't have them. Think this has been mentioned before and the reasoning is that if the washers are missing they can't be tested but the MOT tester doesn't test for what should/shouldn't be on a car legally.

EDIT: Just had a quick search. It seems that washers are only a legal requirement on a brand new car with xenons are fitted at the factory. If xenons are later added then the washers are not required.

Laura, as mentioned in the other thread my Trophy previously had Xenon’s fitted, certainly the MOT testing station I would of used wouldn’t have failed me for them if they where correctly aligned and adjusted.

I assume if you where just having a set of colour coded blanking plates from one of the non washer models it wouldn’t be a huge chore to return to standard if the MOT testing station had an issue.

why on earth is it a requirement to have these on xenons but not on standard lights, I never even use mine!

It is a legal requirement, just depends where you take I suppose.

Most of the time they leak or don't work on the Clio. Even when they do work, they don't really do much

Will probably be fine, I passed with one of mine working but spraying abit randomly!

Also Russ has had his removed I think and he didnt have a problem.

they do fark all on the Clio anyway! have you ever seen one working?

push the boat out and fit VAG motorised units

i had mine removed cos they are ugly things, the garage did the work then they carried out the MOT and passed it. They said if they wasnt there they dont test for them, so get them deleted..
