The ebay xenon style bulbs are awful. Yes they are whiter, and the daylight reflection looks pretty cool but the light they give out its really quite pathetic.

Passing mot and it being legal is different. And as of may this year iirc retrofit kits will be a fail

Mine has projector beams.
As long as you fit them well why would they even know that they are standard or not?
