Xenons not working!argh!!

Went to Has' place today to fit my xenons, we tried testing them jus to see if they work before we took bumper off etc! and they werent working,swapped bits around etc. and the xenon bulbs werent comin on,only the sidelights!! so may have to fork out for two new xenon bulbs! gonna go to renault tomo and test em!

b*****d mate! Did you see them working before you bought them? Have you left feedback for the guy? Btw xenons are about £130 each from reno and around £70 - £100 at other places

Its probably the computers which have failed not the bulbs.

I dunno edde, they were advertised a few weeks before hand stating that they came without the bulbs. Then they appeared 2/3 weeks later back on ebay saying that bulbs were included...

well im gonna get them tested tomo,everything else seems to be ok,if worse comes to worse ill have to buy new bulbs!

as i'd guess they would look fucked if they were(like most HID lamps)

this happened on my 182...

the fuse box under the glove box...one of the fuses wasnt pushed in properly...

now i know you fitted yours aftermarket...but you could check the wee black boxes are all pushed in properly..?

i replaced one of mine and i forgot to push in the little plug into the top of the powerpack inside the light. 2 green cables into the plug if i remember. you probably checked this already tho. Its usually the simpliest of things that cause the most trouble.

no we dint test them in his as it was pissin it down! the bulbs look totally fine,although when we plugged in the xenon unit,it blew a fuse in the headlight so had to replace it? its prob some thin simple like Lam7r said,prob wasnt pushed in properly,but will go to renault 2mo and get them tested!

Sorry to hijack, anyone know what kind of projectors do the Full fat 172 and 182 use? i.e. what brand? Is it Valeo? And i believe the xenon bulbs are philips D2S?

the thing is the bulbs look totally fine. but everytime i go to check if they work,when i plug them in and turn on the lights, only the sidelight bulb comes on? and then i plug my standard eadlight units in and the standard bulb does not work,so it keeps blowing fuses? anyone know wat the prob cud be?

the starters are fucked by the sounds of it.

are you trying them both together or one at a time?

sound like the starters to me, it's the black box on the rear of the bulb housing.

had one of these go when i had my Dynamique, and they were factory fit too.

id say there is f**k all wrong with the wiring in your car as it would operate fuses with your normal lights.

i wouldn't take them to renault as they seem to just guess at what the problem is and charge you when they f**k up

i don't know how the lights attach to the wiring of the car

so just wondering if you had to swap any wires or anything

no it was jus straight fit,but the sidelight bulbs work on the xenon units?so it can be the wiring in the units?

the only other thing i could suggest is give it a good sniff

see if anything smells a bit wrong

they must work, its a bit odd,that both the sidelight bulbs work,but both xenon bulbs don't? where is the best sort of place to take it to apart from renault?

problem there is a massive difference between sidelights and xenons.

sidelights run of 12v

xenons run at 85v (20kV to start them) so the voltage needs to be altered by the starter and ballast

IIRC someone said on here a while ago that they're bosch..

1st of all dont panic - theres lots of different things that it could be. all of which are dead simple to sort out.

1 - The blade fuse in the fuse box on the passengers side of the dash - these are always popping and take 5 secs to replace.

2 - the charger underneath the headlamp.

3 - wiring going to the headlamps

4 - bulbs

5 - UCH control unit under the dash which controls the internal electrics inside the car.

6 - light switch

7 - black charger box that the xenon bulb fixes to

it will be one of the above so start with the easiest and work your way along

plus ive jus noticed somethin a bit fishy! one xenon bulb is Osram and the other is Phillips? are these the original bulbs you get with renault? the units are from a 'O4' 172? would these bulbs jus have been thrown in to make it more appealing??

if you want to get them tested then i would suggest an auto electrician mate, but no idea who? :dapprove: All sounds a bit strange to me mate, can't understand why both wouldn't work...one maybe, but both...? hmmm.... :S Can you take pics of the back of the unit, where the ballast is and of the lamp/charger setup. I'll have a look and see if there's anything obvious. Mail me if it's easier (ClioDaz@aol.com)
