Is it worth spending that kinda cash on it mate? Or are engines dashboards ect cheap cheap?

I thought it was just a car to f**k about it now spend a fortune one?

Colour needs to be something that's not matt black.

Paint wise you should be the first on here to plastidip your entire car.
If it was cheaper, I'd have done it already mate!
good work.

99.9% of the things on your todao list you can do in an afternoon tbh
I've already sorted a few bits and bobs :)

Aye, it's a dick around car. But because the shell is so solid, I may keep it for a long time and it could turn into an all out resto project. A new engine won't be that much, and if I want to keep it a daily it needs one! The problem with cars like this is, it's way too easy to spend money. I'm fixing the little bits here and there so far, the paint and engine will be the most expensive bits!

Did a few jobs on the car today. First thing was checking out the rear light. Before, I had to switch the lights on, then walk around the back and give the rear light a quick whack to get it working. Turns out, it was a mouldy bulb. So I changed it. YAY!

Next thing, I stripped out the rear...

Rear bench was just pulled out, as was the spare tire. I estimate it can now do about 220mph because of this.

Also did a cheeky video of the car.

FUCKYEAH.

If you want it to be a reliable daily steer well clear of bike carbs lol
The main focus would be on actually getting the engine in and running, bike carbs would be a later expense. NOOIISEEEE
Those trainers must add atleast 15bhp aswell.

Do love this car though, wheels suit it really well, not too sure on the roof rack.
Cheers! Not many like it.

then a polo gt engine isnt the right choice as its an injection engine, different loom, ecu etc etc, im running it on carbs as its a PITA to do the injection convesion. but i dont expect it to be reliable... its proving that so far by its unwillingness to start lol

From what I've heard, it runs great on injection (Which it will be). And most people have told me it runs better on carbs :S. I just know as soon as the injection engine is in I wont be able to afford carbs for a few months at minimum

its not that it doesnt run great its just a pain to do as youll need to wire in the ECU to a car that doesnt have or has ever had one

Oh wiring doesn't bother me. My mate James is off his f**king head, because he loves doing it. And he's very good too!

Ha! My mates just offered me his Open Air Polo for cheap as chips, so I may have a daily soon. Means I can focus on stripping the Golf down and cleaning it up proper!

Wiring may be a ball ache, but it's a necessary evil if you want a more modern/reliable engine. And who doesn't want that, in all honesty? Even the geeks sat drinking bovril in a field admiring proper classics will wish they had a modern engine at times.

Can't be that bad anyway, after all, it's an early injection engine. Hardly like trying to wire in the f**king supercomputers in the latest cars.

if i was doing mine again i would have gone for the mk4 polo TDI lump like i orginally wanted to, dunno for some reason that sounds awesome to me

LOL!

I keep throwing this car into roundabouts and bends and I never feel like I'm "On the edge". Even when it starts skipping out and cocking it's wheel, it's just so simple and (IMO) easy to control. There's just stupid amounts of grip too. Love it! I think everyone should own a MK1 tbh.
