Years vs milage cambelt

Hi looking at buying a clio 172 cup the cambelt was last changed 5yrs ago but has only done about 20k since, would you go on milage or years? Thanks for any comments or advice

It's which ever it hits first, 5 years or 72k since last changed

It's hit 5 years so is due to be changed

Should be cheaper on your Cup (presuming it hasn't got aircon fitted)

Where abouts in the country are you, I'd be checking on here to see which of the specialists is closer. Too many horror stories of back street garages messing the timing up on these cars

for clarity from the last time the belts were changed it means this -

1 if it's been 5 years but less than 72k _ change belts

2 If it's been 72k but not 5 years _ change belts


Therefore the statement of 5 years OR 72k miles I would have thought was clear and in no way confusing ?

Its exactly an "or" thing. Like you say, the trigger for change is that it has satisfied at least one of those conditions.


If it was 72K "and" 5 years, then it would imply it needed to have reached both before it was changed.


But OR is correct.

So you need to change your cambelt if its 72K miles old OR if its 5 years old.
